With a history that dates back as far as 1685, South African winery Klein Constantia is set amidst ancient trees on the upper foothills of the Constantiaberg, with views across False Bay. Vin de Constance has a reputation for being one of the world`s best naturally sweet wines. Produced from Muscat de Frontignan, the grapes were left to raisin on the vines, the sweet, concentrated must was fermented in stainless steel followed by a period of 18 months maturation in French oak.
The 1999 vintage is deep, orange-gold in colour, with marked viscosity. Intense and complex nose of dried apricot and peaches. Luscious, concentrated, sweet fruit flavours on the palate are balanced by fine acidity, and followed by a very long, flavourful finish.

(for 500 ml.; this is actually a re-creation of the legendary Constantia wine that dates back two centuries) Medium gold. Aromas of orange liqueur, clove and honey, with a whiff of sultana raisin. Very sweet and very spicy, with vibrant acidity giving the wine shape and grip. Impressively long, brisk, palate-staining finish. Exhilarating sweet wine. Stephen Tanzer1st March 2005
