Kistler Vine Hill Chardonnay 2002 is a white wine from the Russian River Valley, sourced from old vines on Goldridge sandy loam that encourages aromatic lift and mineral definition. The vintage was mild and even, producing fruit of purity and balanced concentration. Aromas of white peach, lemon oil and hazelnut are joined by subtle notes of flint and lees. The palate is finely textured, combining creamy breadth with firm acidity and a discreet saline thread. Oak is delicately integrated, lending quiet depth, and the finish is long and poised, capturing the vineyard’s clarity and Kistler’s restrained precision.

Bright, pale medium yellow. Captivating nose combines grapefruit, underripe pineapple, crushed stone and musky baking spices. Then rich and lush yet sharply delineated on the palate, with very dry flavors of pineapple, spices and stone. A very rich chardonnay that's still a bit youthfully subdued. Finishes long, ripe and dry, with a flavor of dusty stone.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2005
