Klaus-Peter Keller is one of Germany`s most celebrated winemakers, and this Grosses Gewächs Spätburgunder comes from the steep limestone-rich Frauenberg vineyard in Rheinhessen. The 2013 shows a savoury, smoky nose of dark berries, red cherry and floral perfume, with a firm, full-bodied palate combining tangy black fruit, salted meat notes and ripe, grippy tannins. It is a serious, structured take on German Pinot Noir, built for the table rather than early drinking. Best from now through the early 2030s; pair with duck or venison.
