Selosse’s lieu-dit, or single parcel, range stems from belief that site is the most important determinant of wine quality. Since the mid-2000’s, Anselme Selosse began testing that theory by releasing 6 lieux-dits. These non-vintage wines are created using the perpetual reserve method whereby wine from the most recent vintage has cask-aged wines from all previous wines blended in. A portion of this new blend is bottled and the remnants returns to cask for future use. La Côte Faron is 100% Pinot Noir from Aÿ. With wines dating back to 1994, this is a superbly powerful, dense and immensely complex wine.

The NV (2018) Extra-Brut Aÿ La Côte Faron soars out of the glass. Vertical and explosive, La Côte Faron embodies the essence of Aÿ. Red fruits, chalk, white pepper, mint and dried flowers are some of the many notes that open over time. La Côte Faron is the original Selosse lieu-dit. This is one of the very finest editions I can remember tasting. I would be thrilled to own it. Disgorged: January 19, 2025. Antonio Galloni8th April 2025

Produced from a single plot of 100% Pinot Noir from Aÿ, La Côte Faron NV is based on the 2016 vintage with more than half the blend coming from a perpetual reserve solera started in 1994. A beautiful deep, burnished gold color with hints of amber, the nose unfurls to a depth of concentrated aromas of apple tart, caramel nut toffee, warm brioche plus faint hints of browned butter and chestnut honey. The medium to full-bodied palate is savory and very dry with a luminous halo of stimulating acidity brightening a plush core of black fruit, ripe citrus confit, honey, and lemon balm. Generous and engaging, this 2016 La Côte Faron finishes wonderfully long with a salty bitterness that lingers.Sarah Mayo7th December 2023
