Isle of Raasay The Chinkapin is a lightly peated single malt Scotch whisky from the Inner Hebrides. This 2026 release represents the first single malt fully matured in Quercus muehlenbergii (Chinkapin oak) casks, which have a high toast and heavy char. The wood imparts a profile of sweet toffee, maple syrup and a distinct ginger spice that complements the distillery’s signature smoky spirit. The palate is rich and oily, showing a balance of citrus, roasted nuts and wood smoke.

Spirit of the Herbrides

The Isle of Raasay Distillery was established in 2017 with a focus on local production, provenance, quality, and creating unique spirits. Co-founders Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day aimed to build Scotland's leading artisanal distiller, with the Isle of Raasay providing the perfect ingredients for the perfect dram. The remarkable geology, island shores, and unique water source on the Isle of Raasay inspired the creation and presentation of the island's first Scottish gin and the distillery has become embedded in the island's tight-knit community and brings job opportunities to the island, employing more than 25 people.

The distillery's ethos is to produce, mature, bottle, and market every drop of spirit directly from the island, maximising the influence of the island on the spirit and the distillery on the island. The distillery's signature flavour profile is a lightly peated whisky balanced with rich dark fruit flavours.
