Isle of Raasay is a small island distillery off the east coast of Skye, producing distinctive whisky using locally sourced water and a combination of peated and unpeated malted barley. The Hungarian Oak Release uses casks from Hungary`s Zemplén forest — a less common choice in Scotch maturation — adding a distinctive nutty, tannic quality alongside fruit and spice. A characterful and adventurous release from one of Scotland`s newer island distilleries.

Spirit of the Herbrides

The Isle of Raasay Distillery was established in 2017 with a focus on local production, provenance, quality, and creating unique spirits. Co-founders Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day aimed to build Scotland's leading artisanal distiller, with the Isle of Raasay providing the perfect ingredients for the perfect dram. The remarkable geology, island shores, and unique water source on the Isle of Raasay inspired the creation and presentation of the island's first Scottish gin and the distillery has become embedded in the island's tight-knit community and brings job opportunities to the island, employing more than 25 people.

The distillery's ethos is to produce, mature, bottle, and market every drop of spirit directly from the island, maximising the influence of the island on the spirit and the distillery on the island. The distillery's signature flavour profile is a lightly peated whisky balanced with rich dark fruit flavours.
