Château Hosanna is one of the more underrated estates in Pomerol having only existed in name since its purchase in 1999 by the Moueix family. Though many others seriously struggled with frost damage in 2017, Hosanna saw reduced yields but have released and exceptional wine. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, it is medium to full-bodied, rich and bold, delivering gorgeous waves of deep black fruits, spices and dried flowers. Supple, fresh and exceptionally long, this should have a wonderful trajectory over the next few decades.

Made from 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2017 Hosanna is medium to deep garnet-purple in color and sashays out of the glass with beautiful red rose and violets scents over a core of baked blueberries, mulberries and plum preserves plus wafts of vanilla pod and cinnamon stick. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed full of perfumed black and blue fruits, supported by ripe, rounded tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and fragrant.Lisa Perrotti-Brown16th March 2020

The 2017 Hosanna is a virile wine, just as it was en primeur, but it also comes across as a bit light in texture relative to the norm. Today, the Franc aromatics are quite expressive. Dried herbs, chocolate, lavender, mint and licorice lead into sweet purplish berry fruit in this unusually restrained Hosanna.Antonio Galloni1st March 2020

Chateau Hosanna

An Historic Pomerol Estate

The Hosanna estate in Pomerol dates back to the 16th century, when it was known as "Certan Giraud." However, it wasn't until the 1990s that the estate gained recognition for its outstanding wines, following a series of renovations and upgrades by its then-owners, the Moueix family. The vineyards of Château Hosanna cover approximately 4.5 hectares and are planted with predominantly Merlot, as well as smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc. The vines have an average age of 35 years and are grown using sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

The winemaking at Château Hosanna is focused on producing wines which communicate the terroir of Pomerol - younger wines are deep, with a rich flavour profile and elegant structure. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and sorted, and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 to 22 months before bottling.
