Château Hosanna is a relatively young wine label in Pomerol created in 1999 by the Moueix family. The estate only covers 4.5 hectares of vineyards planted to Merlot and Cabernet Franc, vines that thrive on the blue clay soil. The 2019 vintage is an exact blend of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc and has been aged for 18 months in 50% new oak barrels. It’s a full-bodied wine, evoking notes of plums, green olives, kirsch, chocolate and leafy tobacco. Best enjoyed after 2027.

The 2019 Hosanna is a blend of 69% Merlot and 31% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it has the most gorgeous perfume of rose oil, chocolate-covered cherries, and licorice, followed by wafts of blueberry pie, forest floor, and black truffle. The full-bodied palate has amazing concentration, depth, and tension, delivering exquisitely ripe tannins and a very long, layered finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown1st May 2023

The 2019 Hosanna comes across as a tad underwhelming on the nose with blackberry and raspberry coulis, though just a few swirls, and it begins to find its voice. It is still quite expressive after several minutes. The palate is well-defined with fine tannins that frame the plush yet precise black fruit, judiciously spiced with a long and tender finish. Top class. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting. Neal Martin1st February 2023

This lays on the blackberry and black cherry fruits like a concentrated puree and I am already imagining pairing it with a good Brébis cheese. Excellent stuff, just pulls back from being too sweet with an influx of slate, bitter black chocolate, iodine, tobacco, cigar box. Restrained but exuberant, excellent. Chateau Hosanna

An Historic Pomerol Estate

The Hosanna estate in Pomerol dates back to the 16th century, when it was known as "Certan Giraud." However, it wasn't until the 1990s that the estate gained recognition for its outstanding wines, following a series of renovations and upgrades by its then-owners, the Moueix family. The vineyards of Château Hosanna cover approximately 4.5 hectares and are planted with predominantly Merlot, as well as smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc. The vines have an average age of 35 years and are grown using sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.

The winemaking at Château Hosanna is focused on producing wines which communicate the terroir of Pomerol - younger wines are deep, with a rich flavour profile and elegant structure. The grapes are carefully hand-harvested and sorted, and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18 to 22 months before bottling.
