The Sorrel family have been active in the town of Hermitage since 1893 and have come to be recognised as one of the leading producers of both red and white wines in the region. The Hermitage Blanc Le Gréal comes from 60+ year-old vines in the Le Meal vineyard and is a blend of roughly 95% Syrah with 5% Marsanne. It is not made every year and production is tiny at around 200 cases per vintage. The 2017 vintage was stellar in the Rhône and this is a fabulous release of incredible richness, power and complexity. Awash with creamy dark fruits, beautiful aromatic complexity and firm, but supple tannins, this is a classic in the making with at least a 20-year potential life span.

Vinous
Inky ruby. Intensely perfumed aromas of black and blue fruit liqueur, exotic spices, olive and potpourri are energized by a smoky mineral nuance. Juicy and expansive in the mouth, displaying impressively concentrated boysenberry and cherry preserve flavors complemented by suggestions of candied violet, licorice and bitter chocolate. The floral and mineral notes come back strong on a strikingly long, penetrating finish that features building tannins and a sweet touch of cola.Josh Raynolds1st April 2020
