Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 1997 is a mature-vintage, single-vineyard Syrah red wine from the Hermitage appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. This cuvée is named after the tiny chapel which sits atop the hill of Hermitage overlooking the river Tain which runs through the valley. The chapel was purchased by the Jaboulet family in 1919 and has give then name to their iconic Hermitage red ever since. On the 1997 La Chapelle. "Pungent, decadent aromas of aged beef, foie gras and dark fruits follow through to a full body with dried-dark-fruit, prune and raisin flavours and hints of pepper. So rich and opulent now with character of earth, dust and hot pebbles in the sun on the finish that holds together this very ripe-styled La Chapelle." James Suckling, 2014

Ruby-red. Port-like aromas of black cherry, roasted currant and smoky oak. Extraordinarily silky and seamless in the mouth, with uncanny texture and great suavity. Extremely long on the finish, with the tannins buried in fruit. A remarkably lush, accessible La Chapelle whose sheer density of material should enable it to develop in bottle for 15 to 20 years.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2000
