Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle 1989 is a mature-vintage, single-vineyard Syrah red wine from the Hermitage appellation of the northern Rhône Valley. This cuvée is named after the tiny chapel which sits atop the hill of Hermitage overlooking the river Tain which runs through the valley. The chapel was purchased by the Jaboulet family in 1919 and has give then name to their iconic Hermitage red ever since. "I have always been a huge fan of this wine, with incredible depth and richness of character. Dried meat, game, berry, spice, asphalt and tar. Full body with layers of ripe tannins and spice. It goes on for minutes on the finish. This is a fabulously spicy with black pepper, cinnamon, cloves, black truffles, sous bois and liquorice. Decant two or three hours before serving. Purity and balance. This is the legendary 1961 again." 100 points, James Suckling, 2014
