Taking its name `Mount Edelstone` from the German Edelstein meaning ‘gemstone’, a reference to small yellow opals once found in the area, the Mount Edelstone Vineyard was planted in first planted in the Eden Valley in 1912, but was first bottled as a single-vineyard wine in 1952 by fourth-generation Cyril Henschke.

The 2017 release marks the wine`s 6th anniversary and was matured in 26% new and 74% seasoned oak hogsheads for 18 months. On the nose, black fruit with herbal, cedar nuances carrying through to fine-grained tannins on the palate and a long finish.

The Henschke name is synonymous with fine winemaking in Australia, the family are part of the "First Families" - ten of the countries oldest and most respected family-owned, multi-generation wineries. Other names on the roster include d'Arenberg, Yalumba, Tyrrells and Tahbilk. Henschke is currently managed by Prue and Stephen Carl Henschke. Stephen is the youngest son of the famous Cyril Henschke, who elevated the winery to become one of Australia's most highly regarded.

The winery produce a number of fine Cabernet Sauvignon, dry Rieslings and Semillon, but their flagship wine is undoubtedly Hill of Grace single vineyard Shiraz - intense, concentrated and age-worthy - Hill of Grace is considered by many to be Australia's greatest red wine.
