Henschke Hill of Grace 1990 is a single-vineyard Shiraz from Eden Valley in the Barossa region of South Australia. Henschke is synonymous with fine winemaking in Australia. The family is one of the `First Families` – 10 of the country`s oldest and most respected family-owned, multi-generation wineries. Produced from biodynamically farmed vines, the Hill of Grace single-vineyard Shiraz is the family`s flagship wine. Intense, concentrated and age-worthy, it is considered by many to be Australia`s greatest red wine. 1990 is considered an exceptional Barossa vintage. "A shy wine at first, a little backward to start with, some smooth creamed spice that builds nicely with spicy plum and sage, red fruits too, some quite ripe fruit characters arrive, youthful and fresh. The palate has crunchy mixed red and dark fruit flavours, smooth nutty tannins and a lovely vibrant core of flavour, darker accents at the finish, supple and even, a stellar vintage, powerful yet elegant. Just approaching its drinking window." James Suckling, 2014

The 1990 Shiraz Hill of Grace comes from a highly regarded vintage. It is starting to show significant development with intense blackberry, mulberry and praline aromas topped by old leather and roasted spices. There is good intensity and fruit drive on the palate. Powerful, spicy mushrooms and baked earthy tones are underpinned by tannins that are just starting to soften and deliver a lengthy finish. Drinking nicely now and for the next decade, but without significant improvement.Vinous1st April 2023
