Heidi Schröck Junge Löwen 2022 is a medium-bodied, blended red wine from the Burgenland region of Austria. Heidi Schröck has managed her family’s 10-hectare estate in the winemaking village of Rust since 1983. Her Junge Löwen (meaning young lion) is a juicy, mineral-inflected blend of Blaufränkisch and Saint Laurent. The fruit was sourced from organically farmed, east-facing vineyard parcels lying on the top of the Rust Hill surrounding Lake Neusiedl. Expect lifted notes of raspberry, cherry and violet flowers, with a fine minerality derived from the vineyards` schistous soils.

June Löwen means young lions, a reference to Heidi’s sons and the crest above their doors. It also, of course, plays into the audacious energy of the wine with its splash and paw bash and untrammelled bolshiness of fruit (have you ever watched lion cubs play?!). Wild cherry, black cherry, bit of leather and tobacco. Formidable grace, kirsch note, beautiful acidity. The Lion King musical in a glass, surely. ;) (TC)
