Situated in the Bordeaux appellation of Pauillac, 5th growth Château Haut Batailley is planted to predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, with smaller percentages of Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines. The 2006 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc, with 60% new oak used.
In the words of the critic Stephen Tanzer, "Good dark, bright red. Aromas of currant, smoke, minerals, licorice and dried flowers. Suave on entry, then supple and sweet in the middle, with Pauillac-typical flavors of currant, iron, fresh herbs and tobacco leaf. An understated wine, dry but not austere. Today a peppery element shortens the wine`s finish."
