Situated in the Pauillac appellation, Château Haut-Batailley was created in 1942 by brothers François and Marcel Borie. Boasting a classic cassis profile with complexity from liquorice, cedar and incense spice notes. Here is a wine that is drinking well now.

Medium red-ruby. Ripe, smoky aromas of plum and caramel; this smells opulent! Fat and sweet in the mouth, with a slightly roasted character to the supple plum and leather flavors. In a heavier style than the 2006 but with a reasonably fine-grained texture. Finishes with dusty tannins. I find this less refined than the 2006, but there's more material and ripeness here.Stephen Tanzer1st May 2008

First year of the new vat-house. Great deep colour. Very pure ripe fruit – lots of polished fruit without particularly obvious oak influence. Extreme sweetness on the front palate. A little bit obvious. Well made but slightly pinched tannins on the finish. Quite perceptible heat on the finish. Almost black cherries. A slightly animal raw note. (JR)
