From what is widely regarded as one of the best vintages of the 20th century, Château Haut-Batailley 1982 is a fully mature and ready-to-drink Left-Bank Bordeaux from a Pauillac Fifth Growth. Though often regarded as producing lighter, earlier-drinking wines than Château Batailley - its more illustrious `big brother`, with which, historically, it formed a single estate, haut Batailley produced a 1982 vintage of marked density and depth. "Deep, with some evolution. Thick, dense and lively. Big, round and bloody. Mouthfilling. Plump and rumbustious." Jancis Robinson MW, 2005

Tasted at Pebbles/Zachy’s 1982 dinner in Hong Kong. As one would expect, this Pauillac has a very foursquare graphite scented nose with touches of bay leaf and decayed autumn leaves. It is nicely defined but lacking vigor. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity. It is very conservative with a metallic tincture towards the finish. This has just turned the corner and is in gradual decline. Tasted November 2012.Neal Martin30th June 2017
