The 2010 Château Haut-Bages Libéral exhibits a very classic style, showcasing ripe fruit notes of blackberries, along with elements of leather, tobacco, and a touch of farmyard. The wine is characterized by acidity that propels its flavour profile, and the tannins are finely crafted and polished. Expected to age gracefully for another 5-10 years.

Vinous
The 2001 Haut Bages Libéral has a comparatively light bouquet, scents of black cherries, balsamic, undergrowth and star anise gaining depth with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a distinctly peppery opening, and not amazingly complex yet still fresh. Licorice notes furnish the finish, and white truffle lingers on the aftertaste, which Clare Lurton attributes to the clay soils. Fine. - Neil Martin - The 2001 Haut-Bages Libéral is a lucid garnet color and shows little aging. Quite generous on the nose, it offers tobacco-laced red berry fruit, pencil shavings and enticing estuarine scents of fine delineation. The palate has commendable concentration, a lovely sweet core of blackberry and bilberry fruit and a lively, pure finish that suggests it might benefit from another couple of years in bottle.
