Gusbourne Guinevere 2023 is a still white wine from Kent, produced from Chardonnay grown on south-facing clay and chalk slopes near Appledore. The fruit was whole-bunch pressed and fermented in French oak, with a portion undergoing malolactic conversion to build texture. Aromas of citrus peel, green apple and toasted hazelnut are joined by subtle notes of smoke and struck flint. The palate is finely weighted, its creamy mid-palate balanced by bright acidity and a chalky mineral line. Oak influence is precise and well-judged, leading to a focused, saline finish that underscores the wine’s English cool-climate character.

The 2023 Chardonnay Guinevere was fermented in 228- and 500-liter barrels and matured for nine months. Just 16% of the oak was new. A touch of honey comes through the gentle, smooth smokiness on the nose. Juiciness, lightness and flow characterize the palate, which lacks a bit of its usual concentration yet strikes a happy balance. The finish is bright and light. Anne Krebiehl2nd January 2026

Light, pure and pleasing, initially, but with quite a bit of weight on the end. Definitely a medium-bodied Chardonnay! (JR)
