Grange des Pères Rouge 2006 is a full-bodied, blended red wine from the Languedoc region of south-west France. Domaine de la Grange des Pères was founded in the early 1990s by the late Laurent Vaillé, who was known for his meticulous and passionate approach to winemaking. The estate has gained a cult following and its wines are highly sought-after due to their limited production and exceptional quality. Vineyards are farmed organically and biodynamically principles. Just two wines are made at the domaine. one white (using Chardonnay, Roussanne and Marsanne with a small amount of Petit Manseng) and one red (typically Syrah and Mourvèdre, with smaller proportions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Counoise). "This is going to need at least 5-6 years in the cellar to even begin to reveal its full potential, and I can imagine a long bottle evolution borrowing elements from the Medoc, Hermitage, and Chateauneuf (much as Vaille’s choice of grapes anticipates). Yet even if its potential is far from realization, this wine’s layered complexity and visceral intensity are already undeniable. Cassis, cherry pits, dark chocolate, honey, walnut oil, iodine, roasted meats, resinous and bitter-sweet herbs, and wet stone are among the flavour elements that implacably stain the palate." Wine Advocate, 2009
