Founded in Beaune in 1880, Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy`s leading wine producers, with vineyard holdings in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, as well as in Oregon, USA. Today, the domaine is led by the 4th generation of the family and produces wines from nearly 90 different appellations. This cuvée comes from Grands-Echézeaux, a grand cru vineyard in the Côte de Nuits, sandwiched between Echézeaux and Clos de Vougeot. The 2016 vintage was low in quantity but produced high quality wines, offering notes black fruit with hints of violet and spices.

Vinous
The 2016 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru has a similar nose to Tremblay’s Echézeaux tasted alongside. Raspberry and crushed strawberry at first, autumn leaves and attractive wilted rose petal aromas following suit. Fine delineation and nicely integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy ripe red berry fruit, fine tannin, plenty of spice and a subtle garrigues-like/Provençal note towards the harmonious finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting. Neal Martin1st October 2019
