Based in the village of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is unquestionably one of the most prestigious and collectible wine producers in the world. Unlike other great Burgundy estates, DRC’s strategy has always been to focus on just a small number of grand cru vineyards, such as Grands-Echézeaux, where the domaine owns a 3.52-hectare plot. This release is from the 1997 vintage, available in this spectacular and rare Jeroboam. Expect a slightly smoky nose, including aromas of dark chocolate, mixed herbs and peat. The palate is elegant and earthy, with medium weight and notes of sous bois, blackberries and cedar.

Vinous
The 1997 Grands-Echézeaux Grand Cru has an effervescent, very transparent and poised bouquet. Scorched earth and Earl Grey infuse the red fruit. The palate is very well balanced with tea leaf and bay leaf, pretty red fruit and fine acidity. It just lacks a bit of concentration on the finish you would expect from this vineyard, but it is refined. Tasted blind at the Wallace brothers' Xmas dinner.Neal Martin1st March 2023
