Situated in the village of Vosne-Romanée, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti is unquestionably one of the most prestigious wine producers in the world. Unlike other great Burgundy estates, DRC’s strategy has always been to focus on just a small number of grand cru vineyards, such as Grands-Echézeaux, where they own a 3.52-hectare plot. This release is from the 1998 vintage, a patchy year for Burgundy but one that produced excellent red wines in the end.

Bright red-ruby. Perfumed, spicy aromas of cassis, cherry, raspberry and flowers; fresher and more tangy than the Echezeaux. Juicy, vibrant and high-pitched, with tight, precise flavors framed by strong acidity. Finishes fairly tannic and long, with a hint of youthful austerity. I like this.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2001
