Grands Echezeaux d`Eugenie 2015 is an aristocratic Grand Cru bottling from one of the most prestigious plots in the Cote de Nuits. Sourced from 0.5 hectares of vines, this wine is more muscular and chiselled than its Echezeaux sibling, offering a brooding aromatic profile of raspberry, wild strawberry and crushed limestone. The 2015 vintage was harvested at remarkably low yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare, ensuring a concentration of flavour and a firm, fine-grained tannic structure. Aged in 75% new oak, this magnum bottling represents the pinnacle of the estate`s production, promising a long, elegant evolution marked by a distinct sense of mineral precision.

Tasted blind, the 2015 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru showed extraordinarily well, far surpassing my expectations and proving that interesting things are finally afoot at this domaine. Unfurling in the glass with a classy bouquet of ripe wild berries, rose petals, incense, candied peel and espresso roast, the wine is full-bodied, ample and lavish, with satiny tannins, a fleshy but succulent core of fruit, juicy balancing acids and the ineffable sense of completeness that distinguishes the vintage`s best wines.

The 2015 Grands Echézeaux Grand Cru is poured because it was the first wine where the Domaine tried no SO2 during the vinification. It has a lovely bouquet with redcurrant, cranberry and light kirsch scents, touches of orange peel and tangerine. The palate is well balanced with crunchy red fruit, maybe a little rustic compared to the wines nowadays with a rather stalky finish. This should be interesting to observe ageing over the next decade. Neal Martin17th June 2025
