The Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste 1995 is a highly regarded red Bordeaux wine from the Pauillac appellation. It represents a classic expression of its esteemed Fifth Growth (Cinquième Cru Classé) status from a very good vintage. Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste has a long and rich history, with roots tracing back to the 16th century. The `Grand-Puy` part of the name refers to the `large hill` or elevated gravel outcrops where the vineyards are located, a key aspect of its terroir. The "Lacoste" refers to the family who owned the property for much of the 18th and 19th centuries. Since 1978, the estate has been owned by the Borie family, with François-Xavier Borie taking charge.

The 1995 Grand Puy Lacoste has one of the better aromatics with ample red berry fruit, black truffle, cigar box and light earthy scents. Fine complexity and vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with a supple opening, and the tannins are malleable after 30 years as white pepper and sage infuse red and black fruit. Just a touch of spicebox lines the finish. This is drinking perfectly now. Neal Martin17th June 2025

Significantly softer than 1998, beautifully graceful, with whisps of campfire smoke and autumnal hedgerow blackberry puree, held in place by barely there tannins. A warm vintage and you see the generosity. It is absolutely ready to drink, and begging for a quiet corner and a good book. Soft in the finish but with poise and charm.
