Château Grand Mayne 1985 is a fully mature, medium-bodied Merlot-based red wine from the St-Emilion appellation of Bordeaux. Château Grand Mayne is a Right Bank wine producer situated at the heart of the Saint-Émilion appellation. The château has changed hands several times in the past, but it has been owned by the Nony family since 1934. "The 1985 has very good colour, a moderately intense bouquet of spicy oak and ripe fruit, medium body, well-focused, expansive flavours, and an overall elegant feel to it." Robert Parker, 1998

The 1985 Grand Mayne has more intensity on the nose compared to 1982 with redcurrant, black truffle and light irony notes, quite Pomerol in style. The palate is sweet on the entry with dark chocolate infusing the red fruit. Quite a firm Grand Mayne, not a fleshy 1985 like its peers with a strict but rather persistent finish and a touch of black pepper on the aftertaste. Very fine. Tasted at the Grand Mayne vertical at the property. - Neil Martin
