Gosset 21 Ans is a vintage prestige-cuvée Champagne produced by Maison Gosset in in the Aÿ-Champagne region of France. This prestige Gosset cuvée is a blend of Chardonnay (57%) and Pinot Noir (43%) from a selection of Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards. The wine undergoes a minimum of 21 years of aging in the Gosset cellars. It was bottled with just 3g/l of dosage. Producer note. "Aromas of dried fruit. apricots and candied pineapple, followed, after a few minutes, by aromas of chestnut honey and crème de marrons. The palate opens with a rich expression of plums and other yellow fruits and a blend of candied citrus fruit. The mid-palate shows nice structure and density with notes of light tobacco. This `ennobled by time` quality is balanced on the finish by a surprising mineral freshness and just a hint of salinity, characteristic of the Gosset style."

A blend of 57% Chardonnay and 43% Pinot Noir sourced from premier-cru villages Ambonnay, Avenay-Val-d’Or, Avize, Aÿ, Bouzy, Chigny-les-Roses, Cramant, Cuis, Trépail, Vertus, Verzenay and Villers-Marmery. Dosage is just 3 g/l. Only 1,200 bottles produced.Pale gold. Intense and highly complex aromas of dried fruits, candied citrus peel and wild honey along with ripe, pure citrus notes of lemon and clementine. Toasty but the toasty notes have evolved beyond tertiary to quaternary flavours. Honeyed on the palate even though it is beautifully crisp and dry. Rounded and full-flavoured in the mouth. What an absolute marvel of balance and aged complexity. There`s still a fine mousse even though it is now on the gentle side. I think it will become even more vinous (wine-like) with longer in the bottle but will still be delicious when it takes that direction. Intensely flavourful, the flavours becoming more broad with age and yet the core of acidity keeps this tight and in shape. Scrumptious, to use a non-technical term. (JH)

The Gosset family has been established in Champagne well before 1484, when Jean Gosset was born. A century later, Pierre Gosset, alderman of Aÿ and winegrower, founded the House, which produced still wines, often red, from its own vineyards. For more than four centuries, Maison Gosset has been perpetuating the perfection and transmission of its know-how in the production of Champagne wines with an original character.
