Château Gloria 1988 is a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the St-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. Created by Henri Martin over the course of several decades, Château Gloria is a charming wine producer in the Saint-Julien appellation. Its vineyards stretch over approximately 50 hectares across several plots, including in the Beychevelle region, in the north on the border with Pauillac, and in the west of Saint-Julien. "A garnet/deep brick hue. An attractive nose of cigar box and rusty nail. overtly secondary aromas but not diffuse. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly coarse tannins. Black dusty fruit, a little under ripeness and a note of "iron filings" and ground coffee on the finish. Despite everything, I still quite enjoyed this, although the 1990 is better." The 1988 Gloria has a perfectly respectable bouquet: dusty black fruit, cedar and sandalwood, quite fresh compared to its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with rather raw tannin. Here, the wine has not aged as well as the aromatics, sharp and a little volatile with a strong soy note on the dry finish. Drink soon. Tasted at the château. Neal Martin1st May 2018
