Glenturret 7 Year Old Peat Smoked (2024 Release) is an age-statement Highland single malt whisky produced at the Glenturret Distillery. Tracing its history back to 1763, Glenturret lays claim to being the oldest distillery in Scotland. Well known for its connection with the Famous Grouse blended whisky, the Glenturret Distillery retains a small proportion of its stock to release as a single malt. This 7-year-old is the introduction to Glenturret`s core peated range of single malts. Producer note. "American Oak driven, this whisky has a pronounced smoky character followed by sweeter, fruit notes, influenced from European Oak. Refill casks enhance our peated new make spirit character, giving a citrus-forward nose that develops into sweet, fruity notes on the palate."

One of Scotland's Oldest Working Distilleries

Glenturret has a long and complex history with records showing distilling was taking place near the site as far back at the early 1700s. A distillery called Hosh was producing spirit in the late 18th century, with a local competitor called Glenturret operating nearby. The name Glenturret was adopted by Hosh around 100 years after it opened and the original Glenturret appears to have disappeared from the record books. The 20th century saw the distillery close for over thirty years between the 1920s and the 1950s, during which time the stills were dismantled and the buildings repurposed. It was James Fairlie who re-vitalised it and began producing single malt once more.

Recent years have seen limited edition releases of age statement malts, peated editions and cask finishes, but historically the distillery was best known for supplying whisky to the one of the world's well known blended whiskies - Famous Grouse. Independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail, Berry Brothers and That Boutique-y Whisky Co are worth seeking out. The whisky itself usually tends towards the mellower, honeyed style with notes of sweet barley and candied peel.
