Glenturret 44 Year Old The Last Drop 1977, a limited release from one of Scotland`s oldest distilleries. Distilled in 1977 and drawn from a single sherry butt, this expression is confined to just 163 bottles, each bottled at 45% ABV. The nose presents tropical notes of plums, peach, and mango, complemented by thyme and oak spices. The palate delivers floral nuances alongside sherried tannins, mild spices, and a hint of liquorice, reflecting the distillery`s long-standing heritage since 1775.

One of Scotland's Oldest Working Distilleries

Glenturret has a long and complex history with records showing distilling was taking place near the site as far back at the early 1700s. A distillery called Hosh was producing spirit in the late 18th century, with a local competitor called Glenturret operating nearby. The name Glenturret was adopted by Hosh around 100 years after it opened and the original Glenturret appears to have disappeared from the record books. The 20th century saw the distillery close for over thirty years between the 1920s and the 1950s, during which time the stills were dismantled and the buildings repurposed. It was James Fairlie who re-vitalised it and began producing single malt once more.

Recent years have seen limited edition releases of age statement malts, peated editions and cask finishes, but historically the distillery was best known for supplying whisky to the one of the world's well known blended whiskies - Famous Grouse. Independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail, Berry Brothers and That Boutique-y Whisky Co are worth seeking out. The whisky itself usually tends towards the mellower, honeyed style with notes of sweet barley and candied peel.
