Glentauchers 29 Year Old Connoisseurs Choice from Gordon & MacPhail presents a significant expression of Speyside whisky. Initially matured in a single Sherry cask, it reveals prominent aromas of dried figs, orange peel and dark chocolate. As the whisky evolves, layers of caramelised nuts and baked apple become discernible, complemented by a hint of spice. Founded in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail is renowned for its commitment to quality and tradition, meticulously selecting casks to enhance the characteristics of each whisky it bottles.

Long ferments and slow distillations

The Charles Doig-designed Glentauchers distillery was constructed on Tauchers Farm, close to the town of Keith in Banffshire, in 1897. It was founded by James Buchanan and Co as a source of malts for the company’s Buchanan’s and Black & White blended whiskies.

Following a period of inactivity amid the general decline in whisky sales in the 1980s, Glentauchers was purchased by Allied Distillers in 1989. It then became part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio following the latter’s acquisition of Allied.

The distillery’s new make – the product of long ferments and slow distillation – produces a light, floral malt whisky which has since the 1990s been a central component of blends such as Ballantine’s, Teacher’s and Chivas Regal. Since the 1990s Glentauchers has rarely been seen as a single malt, with the exception of independent bottlings from Gordon & MacPhail. However, in 2017 a 15-year-old Glentauchers was released under the Ballantine’s brand.
