Companta is a complex blend that combines standard 9-year-old ex-bourbon Glenmorangie with a unique finishing process. The first component matures for 5 years in red Grand Cru Burgundy wine casks from Clos de Tart, while the second, a 10-year-old Glenmorangie, undergoes an 8-year finish in a lusciously sweet fortified wine from Côtes du Rhône. The resulting vatting comprises 60% of the first component and 40% of the second, creating a truly impressive and distinctive dram.

Pioneers of Wood Technology

Alcohol production has been recorded on the Morangie Farm, from which the distillery takes its name since the early 18th century. A brewery was known to exist on the site in the 1730 and Glenmorangie as we known it today was established in 1843, when William Matheson acquired the farm and installed a pair of second hand gin stills.

Today, Glenmorangie boast the tallest stills in Scotland, which contribute to the characteristic full, fruity character of the malt. The core range includes Glenmorangie Original, 18 and 25 year olds as well as a number of wood finished non-age-statement bottlings.

Long time distillery manager Dr Bill Lumsden, who also consults with Ardbeg, is well regarded in the industry, pioneering wood management techniques that have been widely adopted across Scotland.
