Based near the town of Tain in north-east Scotland, Glenmorangie is known for its unique distillation process that uses the tallest stills in Scotland. The company was acquired by French luxury goods giant Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in 2004, adding a high-class Scotch to its portfolio of wines and spirits. ‘A Tale of The Forest’ is the distillery`s first single malt crafted from barley kilned with woodland botanicals, including juniper berries, birch bark and heather flowers.

Pioneers of Wood Technology

Alcohol production has been recorded on the Morangie Farm, from which the distillery takes its name since the early 18th century. A brewery was known to exist on the site in the 1730 and Glenmorangie as we known it today was established in 1843, when William Matheson acquired the farm and installed a pair of second hand gin stills.

Today, Glenmorangie boast the tallest stills in Scotland, which contribute to the characteristic full, fruity character of the malt. The core range includes Glenmorangie Original, 18 and 25 year olds as well as a number of wood finished non-age-statement bottlings.

Long time distillery manager Dr Bill Lumsden, who also consults with Ardbeg, is well regarded in the industry, pioneering wood management techniques that have been widely adopted across Scotland.
