This Glenlivet G&M 1948, bottled in 2002, is a 50 Year Old expression from the renowned Speyside distillery, matured under the stewardship of the Urquhart family at Gordon & MacPhail. The whisky originates from a time when Glenlivet embraced traditional production methods, revealing a spirit profile that diverges from contemporary offerings. This decanter release represents an extensive maturation period, characterised by an intricate balance of Sherry influence. Expect notes of dried fruit, beeswax, and subtle leather, underscored by a complexity derived from decades spent in oak. This bottling serves as a record of Glenlivet`s heritage, highlighting its evolution in the whisky landscape.

A Classic Speyside

Glenlivet was the first Speyside in distillery to be granted a license after the passing of the excise act in 1823. Founded by George Smith, the distillery has become synonymous with a softer, gentler style of single malt and one of Scotland's best selling whiskies. Beyond the reliable core range that features a 12 year old, 15 year old, 18 year old and a number of non-age-statement cask finishes, Glenlivet is famous for the venerable old drams released under the "Cellar Collection" series.

The distillery was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2001 and currently produces over 10 millions litres of new-make spirit a year. The team operate six stills and eight washbacks, installed as part of a renovation project that was completed in 2010.
