Glenlivet G&M 1939 is a Speyside single malt whisky, distilled just before the onset of the Second World War. Matured for decades under the stewardship of Gordon & MacPhail, this whisky showcases the traditional production methods of its time, notably the use of floor-malted barley. The aroma and palate reveal a complex interplay of beeswax, tropical fruit rancio, soft peat smoke, and antique furniture. Noteworthy is the influence of high-quality Sherry casks, which have integrated seamlessly with the spirit, contributing depth and character. As a rare release from a defining era, it serves as a historical reference point and a standard for vintage whiskies.

A Classic Speyside

Glenlivet was the first Speyside in distillery to be granted a license after the passing of the excise act in 1823. Founded by George Smith, the distillery has become synonymous with a softer, gentler style of single malt and one of Scotland's best selling whiskies. Beyond the reliable core range that features a 12 year old, 15 year old, 18 year old and a number of non-age-statement cask finishes, Glenlivet is famous for the venerable old drams released under the "Cellar Collection" series.

The distillery was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2001 and currently produces over 10 millions litres of new-make spirit a year. The team operate six stills and eight washbacks, installed as part of a renovation project that was completed in 2010.
