Glenlivet 40 Year Old Atlantic Cask 5318 represents an ultra-rare expression from the renowned Glenlivet Distillery, established in 1824 in Scotland`s Speyside region. This single malt whisky has been matured for four decades in a single Sherry butt, imparting distinctive characteristics and a complex flavour profile. The nose reveals layers of antique oak, leather and dried tropical fruits, while the palate offers orange marmalade, dark chocolate and ginger. An extraordinary textural viscosity arises from its extended wood maturation, culminating in a finish marked by beeswax and the scent of old library books.

A Classic Speyside

Glenlivet was the first Speyside in distillery to be granted a license after the passing of the excise act in 1823. Founded by George Smith, the distillery has become synonymous with a softer, gentler style of single malt and one of Scotland's best selling whiskies. Beyond the reliable core range that features a 12 year old, 15 year old, 18 year old and a number of non-age-statement cask finishes, Glenlivet is famous for the venerable old drams released under the "Cellar Collection" series.

The distillery was purchased by Pernod Ricard in 2001 and currently produces over 10 millions litres of new-make spirit a year. The team operate six stills and eight washbacks, installed as part of a renovation project that was completed in 2010.
