Glenfarclas Family Cask 587 (Release 1) is a limited-edition single malt whisky produced at the Glenfarclas Distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. An original release in the Glenfarclas Family Cask series of old and rare single-cask single malts, this exceptional Highlander was distilled in 1978 and matured in a single refill hogshead for 29 years. It was bottled in 2007 at a cask strength of 50.3%. Just 257 bottles were filled. Copper in colour, this is a relatively lightly sherried, floral example of Glenfarclas with subtle grassy notes.

A Family Owned Distillery

Glenfarclas is one of very few privately owned Scottish distilleries having been in the hands of the Grant family for six generations from the mid-1800s until the present day. Glenfarclas operate three wash stills and four spirit stills and take their water from springs around the nearby Ben Rinnes mountain.

The distillery have a focus on high quality, flavourful spirits matched with high quality ex-Sherry barrels from Jerez de la Frontera. The core range is impressively consistent featuring a 10 year old, 15 year old, 18 year and 21 year old. A limited edition 30 year old is released annual and special mention should go to 105 Caskk Strength - a superb non-age-statement cask strength single malt bottled at 57.5% ABV.
