Distilled in 1961, this Glenfarclas Family Cask 3050 is a 50 Year Old Speyside single malt whisky, released in 2012 as part of the Family Cask series. Matured exclusively in a Sherry cask and bottled at 48% ABV, it is drawn from a single cask, numbered 3050, which limited the outturn to 69 bottles. The whisky exhibits characteristics typical of pre-1960s distillation, with aromas of cedar and dark chocolate. Glenfarclas distillery, known for its traditional methods using direct-fired copper pot stills, has maintained its family-owned essence since its founding in 1836, emphasising heritage and craftsmanship in its whisky production.

A Family Owned Distillery

Glenfarclas is one of very few privately owned Scottish distilleries having been in the hands of the Grant family for six generations from the mid-1800s until the present day. Glenfarclas operate three wash stills and four spirit stills and take their water from springs around the nearby Ben Rinnes mountain.

The distillery have a focus on high quality, flavourful spirits matched with high quality ex-Sherry barrels from Jerez de la Frontera. The core range is impressively consistent featuring a 10 year old, 15 year old, 18 year and 21 year old. A limited edition 30 year old is released annual and special mention should go to 105 Caskk Strength - a superb non-age-statement cask strength single malt bottled at 57.5% ABV.
