Glenfarclas 42 Year Old Family Cask 4076 1974 is a Speyside single malt whisky, distilled in 1974 and matured in a single Sherry butt for over four decades. Bottled in 2017 at 52.1% ABV, this expression exemplifies the distillery`s commitment to traditional methods, particularly the use of direct-fired stills. The whisky features a rich, oily texture derived from its lengthy maturation, with flavour notes of molasses, dark fruitcake, roasted nuts, and antique oak. The Sherry influence plays a crucial role, adding a resinous quality that complements rather than masks the spirit’s inherent depth. As part of the Family Cask series, this release reflects the craftsmanship of the Grant family in wood management and heritage.

A Family Owned Distillery

Glenfarclas is one of very few privately owned Scottish distilleries having been in the hands of the Grant family for six generations from the mid-1800s until the present day. Glenfarclas operate three wash stills and four spirit stills and take their water from springs around the nearby Ben Rinnes mountain.

The distillery have a focus on high quality, flavourful spirits matched with high quality ex-Sherry barrels from Jerez de la Frontera. The core range is impressively consistent featuring a 10 year old, 15 year old, 18 year and 21 year old. A limited edition 30 year old is released annual and special mention should go to 105 Caskk Strength - a superb non-age-statement cask strength single malt bottled at 57.5% ABV.
