Glen Spey was originally founded in 1878 and is known for producing light and delicate whiskies. This particular expression was distilled in 1996 and aged for 13 years in a combination of refill American oak hogsheads and first-fill European oak sherry butts. On the nose, you`ll find aromasd of sweet malt, dried fruit, and a hint of vanilla. The palate is smooth and creamy, with notes of honey, toffee and mixed spices.

Glen Spey

A Rarely Seen Speyside Malt

Established as the Mill of Rothes in Moray, Speyside, in 1878, Glen Spey took its current name in 1887. This workhorse distillery was for a long time the home of then-owner W&A Gilbey’s Spey Royal blended Scotch.

In more recent years, much of the single malt produced at Glen Spey has been used for blends, most notably J&B. The distillery’s use of purifiers in its stills promotes reflux of the spirit it produces, creating a lighter whisky which makes for a prime blending component.

Thus far, official Glen Spey releases have been few and far between and include a highly collectible 21-year-old cask-strength single malt. Today only a 12-year-old, released as part of owner Diageo’s Flora & Fauna series, exists. Several independent bottlings are also on the market.
