Glen Ord 23 Year Old Rare Malts 1974 is an expression from one of the lesser-known distilleries in the Highlands of Scotland - Glen Ord, which has been in operation since 1838. The whisky offers a profile marked by notes of dried fruit, oak, and subtle spices, revealing its age and complexity. The Rare Malts series is exclusive and aims to highlight exceptional single malts from various distilleries, reflecting the craftsmanship behind Scotch whisky.

One of the last on-site maltings...

Glen Ord is an historic Highland distillery founded in the Muir of Ord, in the Black Isle of northern Scotland, in 1838. Glen Ord is one of only a handful of Scotch whisky distilleries that boast onsite barley maltings and for many years has supplied whisky for leading blended whisky brands like Dewar's and Johnnie Walker.

During the 20th century, Glen Ord’s distinctive, smooth Highland single malt was sold variously as Glen Oran, Glenordie, Ordie and Ord. Typically this was as a 12-year-old bottling. In the early 2000s, current owner Diageo discontinued the distillery’s official 12-year-old malt and in 2006 repackaged it as The Singleton Of Glen Ord for the Asian market. A number of older age-statement Singleton of Glen Ord releases now attract the interest of collectors. A number of cask-strength Ord malts also form part of Diageo’s Rare Malts and Special Releases series.
