Aged for 52 years, this Glen Grant 1950 expression, part of the Gordon & MacPhail vintage collection, showcases the richness of Speyside whisky craftsmanship. Distilled in 1950, this single cask malt embodies the nuances developed during its extensive maturation under the stewardship of the Urquhart family. Bottled in 2002 at 40% ABV, it reveals a complex profile characterised by dark Manuka honey, roasted nuts, and a subtle drift of smoke, alongside hints of antique library books. This bottling offers insights into Glen Grant`s ester-forward character, shaped by interaction with European oak over decades, maintaining its distinctly robust distillery identity throughout its evolution.

Glen Grant

A Highly Respected Speyside Malt

Glen Grant was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, a pair of former illegal distillers and smugglers who had decided to establish themselves as legitimate whisky makers. The distillery eventually passed to Major James Grant, nephew of founder John Grant. James modernised the distillery in the late 1800s, adding electric light and introducing taller, more slender stills - a feature that still characterises the character of the spirit to this day.

Older bottlings of Glen Grant lean heavily on the use of ex-Sherry casks, but the recently launched core range tends to a lighter, fruitier style of single malt. Glen Grant is used extensively in Chivas blends and is widely available in the form of venerable old vintage bottlings from the Gordon & MacPhail. A core range features a 10 year old, 12 year old, 15 year old and 18 year old.
