Glen Grant 5 Year Old Gordon and MacPhail 1971 is a single malt Speyside whisky bottled at a young age to showcase the primary distillery character of the early 1970s. During this period the spirit was often produced using direct-fired stills and light peat which contributed a heavier weight and a faint savoury note. Despite the short maturation the whisky possesses a vibrant profile of orchard fruit and malt with a clean and direct finish. This 1971 bottling reflects the traditional style of Glen Grant before modern technical shifts in the distillery.

A Highly Respected Speyside Malt

Glen Grant was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, a pair of former illegal distillers and smugglers who had decided to establish themselves as legitimate whisky makers. The distillery eventually passed to Major James Grant, nephew of founder John Grant. James modernised the distillery in the late 1800s, adding electric light and introducing taller, more slender stills - a feature that still characterises the character of the spirit to this day.

Older bottlings of Glen Grant lean heavily on the use of ex-Sherry casks, but the recently launched core range tends to a lighter, fruitier style of single malt. Glen Grant is used extensively in Chivas blends and is widely available in the form of venerable old vintage bottlings from the Gordon & MacPhail. A core range features a 10 year old, 12 year old, 15 year old and 18 year old.
