Glen Grant 42 Year Old Circa 1936 is a legendary single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region, distilled in 1936 and bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 1978. Released as part of the Distillery Labels series, it stands as an exceptional example of pre-war distillate. It offers an intense profile of crystallised fruits, ancient peat, rancio and tobacco. The palate is an expansive display of Speyside concentration, with notes of tropical fruits and old Cognac-like tones.

A Highly Respected Speyside Malt

Glen Grant was founded in 1840 by brothers John and James Grant, a pair of former illegal distillers and smugglers who had decided to establish themselves as legitimate whisky makers. The distillery eventually passed to Major James Grant, nephew of founder John Grant. James modernised the distillery in the late 1800s, adding electric light and introducing taller, more slender stills - a feature that still characterises the character of the spirit to this day.

Older bottlings of Glen Grant lean heavily on the use of ex-Sherry casks, but the recently launched core range tends to a lighter, fruitier style of single malt. Glen Grant is used extensively in Chivas blends and is widely available in the form of venerable old vintage bottlings from the Gordon & MacPhail. A core range features a 10 year old, 12 year old, 15 year old and 18 year old.
