This limited edition of Glen Elgin was bottled to commemorate the first distillation on the 1st May 1990. A stewed stone fruit nose with sticky honey is followed by a concentrated floral, citrus blossom honeyed palate with a whisp of smoke. The finish is fragrant with liquorice complexity.

Glen Elgin

A Rarely Seen Speysider

Located in the tiny village of Fogwatt in Moray, the original Glen Elgin distillery was built by renowned architect Charles Doig in 1898, at the tail end of that era’s whisky boom. It began producing single malt whiskies in 1900. The distillery was rebuilt in the early 1960s to cope with increased production and for much of its latter history it has been known primarily as a contributor of ‘first class’ malt for blended whiskies such as White Horse.

Glen Elgin’s official single malt range originally consisted of 12-year old, 16-year-old, 20-year-old and 32-year-old expressions. By 2000 only the 12-year-old remained - originally released as part of Diageo’s Flora and Fauna range and soon after becoming part of the ‘Hidden Malts’ range.

With so few single malt expressions having been produced at this small Speyside distillery, it is perhaps unsurprising that Glen Elgin single malts remain a cult favourite among aficionados.
