Owned by the Albada Jelgersma family, Château Giscours is a Third Growth wine estate situated in the Margaux appellation. Giscours`s wines are typically quite fragrant on the nose and robust on the palate. This release is the 2005 vintage, a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. It’s a full-bodied wine, with plenty of berry fruit and spices, carried by a very silky texture. Drinking well now.

The 2005 Giscours has far more concentration on the nose than the '04: blackberry, raspberry, cedar and crushed flowers, with hints of licorice emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with good grip, boasting plush red fruit, desiccated orange peel and brown spices. This is not a subtle Giscours, but it gives a lot of pleasure. Neal Martin2nd April 2025

Tasted at the Château Giscours vertical, the 2005 Château Giscours is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot picked between September 22 and October 6. Conspicuously deep in color, both the aromatics and palate replicate the strong performance from earlier this year. The bouquet offers very fine intensity with blackberry and cedar, here a tinge of cassis that becomes accentuated with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine, slightly grainy tannin. It is very well balanced and almost Saint Julien in style. It is clearly very focused with a sustained, mineral-rich finish that (as I said before) contains real energy. This is an excellent Giscours that will age nicely over the next 20-25 years. Tasted June 2015. - Neal Martin
