Giscours 1982 is a red wine from the Margaux appellation in Bordeaux, marked by a blend predominantly composed of Cabernet Sauvignon. This third growth exhibits an alcohol content of 12.5%, resulting from a vintage characterised by a notably hot summer, which facilitated early phenolic maturity. Aged in traditional French oak, it reveals a mature profile featuring dried blackcurrants, leather, and smoked cedar, with a texture supported by resolved tannins. Giscours, established in 1552, is known for its gravelly soils that enhance its wines` complexity, making this vintage a crucial reference point for the estate`s evolution and the region`s vinicultural history.

The 1982 Giscours has a relatively light bouquet with rustic red berry fruit and a touch of scorched earth, nicely defined if undoubtedly missing the horsepower you' expect from a 1982. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid red berry fruit, firm backbone, moderate complexity and a dash of black pepper towards the finish. This is a decent Giscours hampered by increasing plantings of Merlot instead of Cabernet Sauvignon. Neal Martin2nd April 2025

Respectably deep crimson but a muddy, smudgy nose. Sweet and simple. Some tannins, but they are not really integrated with the fruit nor, it seems, ever will be. (JR)
