Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes Domaine?Sérafin?2016 is a village-level red from Domaine Sérafin Père & Fils in Gevrey-Chambertin. Crafted from old-vine Pinot?Noir (average age 65-70 years, with some vines up to 90 years old), the wine delivers rich, layered aromas of black cherry, cassis, grilled meat and earth, underscored by smoky oak and fine spice. On the palate it is deep and full-bodied, with a firm tannic structure, persistent finish and clear ageing potential – it is built to evolve over a decade or more.

The 2016 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes has an attractive bouquet with vivacious black cherry, bilberry and violet aromas that seems to cope well with the 100% new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, well structured for a Village Cru with fine delineation towards the finish. It feels tannic and a little hard at the moment so afford this six or seven years to soften. Tasted at the Domaine. Neal Martin1st October 2019
