Crafted from older vines averaging 60 years in the southern part of the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation, the 2015 Heresztyn Mazzini offers a portrayal of Pinot Noir from this renowned Burgundy region. The winemaking process involved whole-cluster fermentation and aging in French oak barrels, which contribute to the wine`s structure. Aromas of black cherries and liquorice are complemented by earthy mineral notes, with a firm tannic backbone enhancing the overall profile. This bottling reflects the vintage`s ability to bring heightened phenolic maturity, showcasing the complexity that stems from the vineyard`s old vines, which yield concentrated flavours and depth typical of Gevrey-Chambertin.

The 2015 Gevrey Chambertin Vieilles Vignes includes 55% whole bunch fruit and it was matured in 30% new French oak. It offers bright redcurrant and cranberry scents on the nose that is well defined and offers plenty of freshness and vitality. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, structured in style with more crunchy black fruit here than the aromatics, sous-bois and white pepper towards the finish. This is premier cru in quality—excellent.

Mid cherry red. Subtle but perfumed dark-red fruit and just a hint of stems (leafy). The dry finesse to the texture also suggests plenty of whole-bunch fermentation (c 50% in 2015, apparently). Elegant and really quite delicate. Juicy on the finish. (JH)
