The Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes 2005 from Domaine Geantet-Pansiot is sourced from old vines nestled in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. These vines, older than 50 years, thrive in clay-limestone soils that offer good drainage and reflect the unique terroir. The estate, founded in 1997, prioritises traditional winemaking techniques while embracing sustainable practices. The grapes undergo hand harvesting, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks and ageing for 16 months in oak barrels.
90 Vinous
(a blend of 17 parcels) Bright ruby-red. Pungent, perfumed nose melds black and red raspberry, smoked meat, flint and minerals; I would describe this as a Chambolle style of Gevrey. Then fat, pliant and sweet, with a light touch and nice definition to the flavors of red and black fruits, smoke and minerals. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and very good length. Serious wine, more vibrant than the Feusselottes and structured to age.
